Things to do in Stockholm, in minutes from the central station
The Vasa, the old town, ABBA, a boat to Vaxholm and the palace: walking minutes from Stockholm C, prices read 1 November 2026, and the city's daylight by month.
Two days do Stockholm: one for Djurgården's museums, one for the old town and a boat. Everything below is a walk from Stockholm C, where the Arlanda Express lands 18 minutes from the airport for SEK 349 one way (adult Full flex, arlandaexpress.com, read 1 November 2026). The old town is 14 minutes away on foot, the Vasa Museum 30, ABBA The Museum 35. In winter the sun is up for about six hours, so the museums carry the day; in summer, with more than 18 hours, the boat does.

Djurgården: one afternoon, three museums
The Vasa Museum holds the 1628 warship; adults pay SEK 195 until April and SEK 240 from May, and everyone 18 and under is free, so a family with teenagers pays for two. ABBA The Museum is 639 m and 8 minutes further, SEK 269 to 349 depending on the period, with a family ticket of SEK 639 to 839. Skansen, the open-air museum and zoo, is 898 m beyond that; its hours page gives 10:00–15:00 on weekdays this winter and 10:00–18:00 from 31 May to 29 August 2027, but no price, which it says varies by season and is lowest online. ABBA The Museum lists tram 7 and the Djurgården ferry for the island; walk out and ride back.
Gamla stan: the free morning
The old town loop on this site is 2.4 km and 30 minutes of walking from the metro, measured leg by leg (/experiences/gamla-stan-walk). The doors on it are the palace (SEK 220, rising to 240 in summer; children 7–17 SEK 110), the Nobel Prize Museum on Stortorget (SEK 160, tickets only at the entrance, Fridays open to 21:00) and Riddarholmen Church (SEK 65). The palace warns that the Royal Apartments can close for the King's official receptions; its page lists the dates.
The water
Strömma's boats leave Strandvägen for Vaxholm: the steamer S/S Stockholm in about 1 h 30, SEK 245 one way or 395 return, and the fast Cinderella II in 50 minutes from SEK 190 (stromma.com, read 1 November 2026). Strömma says every ticket must be booked online; sold-out boats sell nothing on board. Price per minute afloat is lowest on the slow boat both ways, worked through on /experiences/stockholm-archipelago-boat. The public archipelago line, Waxholmsbolaget, did not render without scripts today; check its fares on its own site.
Daylight by month
Hours of sun at Stockholm's coordinates on the 15th, NOAA equations, 2027 (computed): January 6 h 53, February 9 h 16, March 11 h 44, April 14 h 29, May 16 h 59, June 18 h 34, July 17 h 53, August 15 h 34, September 12 h 54, October 10 h 17, November 7 h 42, December 6 h 08. On 15 December the sun is up from about 08:39 to 14:47 local time. Plan winter days around indoor doors and a short midday walk; plan June around the boat and late evenings outdoors.
How it fits a journey
This site has no Stockholm ledger yet. The nearest is the Copenhagen or Oslo stopover, which uses the same two-day shape. Stockholm is also where the train north to Swedish Lapland starts: the Lapland aurora week runs through Finland and Norway, and its Swedish variant via Kiruna and Abisko is set out in Kiruna to Abisko: train or car. In summer the same line leads to the hiking in Swedish Lapland in summer.
