Things to do in Copenhagen with three days, not one

Past the stopover: the harbour, a tower, a swim, Louisiana and Kronborg. Which weekday each is open, and what the set costs an adult, read 1 November 2026.

With three days in Copenhagen instead of an afternoon between flights, spend one in the city, one on the north coast and one on the water or at Tivoli in season. The rule that decides the order is Monday: Louisiana and Kronborg, the two day trips up the coast, are both closed on Mondays in winter, so Monday belongs to the city. Five paid and free experiences on this site cost an adult 435 DKK at the door, read on each operator's page on 1 November 2026, or 420 with Kronborg's online fare. Under-18s pay nothing at Rundetårn, Louisiana or Kronborg.

The one-day version, timed in walking minutes from the metro, is the Copenhagen stopover post. This one is for the second and third day.

The weekday grid

Each row is read from the operator's or the municipality's own page on 1 November 2026, for the winter timetable now running.

The canal-boat row is the least firm: Netto-Bådene publish one day's timetable at a time (nine sailings on 1 November), and Strömma lists multiple daily departures without a weekly grid. Kronborg's 2026 calendar gives November weekends as 10–16 in one row and 10–17 in its Christmas-market row; the site showed 10–16 on Sunday 1 November. Tivoli is shut until its Christmas season opens on 13 November and runs to 3 January, closed 24 December, its own calendar says; its adult entry is date-priced from DKK 150 to 275.

The sum: 80 + 60 + 0 + 145 + 150 = 435 DKK for an adult, or 420 with Kronborg's 135 kr online ticket. Add Tivoli and it is at least 570. Trains to Humlebæk and Helsingør are extra; their fares were not read for this post, so check on dsb.dk.

Day one: the city, on a Monday if you have one

Morning on the water: Netto-Bådene's boats left Nyhavn at 10.00 and every 40 minutes until 15.20 on 1 November, 80 kr for an adult, covered and heated from October to March. Strömma's Classic Canal Tour from the same quay is from DKK 179 for an hour. Afternoon: Rundetårn, 60 DKK, up the spiral ramp of about 200 metres. If the day is a Monday or Tuesday between October and March and the sky is clear, stay for the observatory, open 18–21 with a staffed telescope. Copenhagen's sunset on 1 November was 16:31, computed with the NOAA equations, so the telescope hours are full dark.

In summer, swap the tower's evening for the harbour. Islands Brygge's harbour bath is free and open 06–22 every day of the year, with lifeguards from 1 June to 31 August, 10–18; it is a 21-minute walk from Copenhagen Central on OpenStreetMap footpaths.

Day two: the north coast, Tuesday to Friday

Kronborg first, because it closes at 16:00 in winter; Louisiana second, because it stays open until 22:00 on weekdays. Kronborg's page gives the coast-line train from Copenhagen Central to Helsingør as about every 20 minutes and around 46 minutes, then a walk along the harbour. Louisiana is 10 minutes back down the line at Humlebæk, with a 1.1 km walk from the station, and the museum gives the train from Copenhagen as about 40 minutes. On a Saturday or Sunday the pair still works, but Louisiana closes at 18:00. On a Monday neither is open.

The order matters in the dark months. Arrive at Kronborg at 10:00, leave by 13:00, and you reach Louisiana with the light still on the Øresund and five hours of evening galleries after sunset.

Day three: Tivoli or the water

From 13 November to 3 January, Tivoli's Christmas season is the evening, beside the central station. Outside it, the third day is the one to repeat what worked: a second boat, the longer Strömma tour to Nordhavn (1 hour 45 minutes), or, in summer, an afternoon at the harbour baths.

If Copenhagen is the start of a longer journey

Copenhagen is where three of this site's routes start or change. The Copenhagen or Oslo stopover ledger is the two-day version of this post, ending on a flight to Keflavík. The Iceland and Faroe Islands by ferry journey drives from here to Hirtshals; the Danish summer road trip to Skagen is the slower version of that drive, with Kronborg and Louisiana on day one.
