This is the snowmobile tour for people driving the Golden Circle themselves: you park at Gullfoss, a large modified truck takes you up the highland track to a base camp on the edge of Langjökull, and you spend an hour on the ice cap on two-person machines. It suits a group that wants one loud, physical half-day in an itinerary of viewpoints. It is expensive, it is mostly transport, and it is the first thing the weather cancels.
The figures, read today on mountaineers.is: the "Meet us at Gullfoss" tour runs all year, takes four hours, departs at 12:00 and 14:00 (the page says up to three departures a day) and costs from 33,500 ISK. The snowmobile part is one hour including stops; the transfer from Gullfoss to base camp takes 40 to 60 minutes each way. Snowmobiles are shared by two; a single rider pays extra. Drivers need a valid licence and must be 18; the minimum age to join is six, with one child per adult. Helmets, overalls, overshoes, gloves and a hat are provided; food is not. The meeting point is the upper car park at Gullfoss, outside the restaurant and shops.
The arithmetic
On the five-day South Coast and Golden Circle journey, day 2 already drives Reykjavík–Þingvellir–Geysir–Gullfoss–Kerið and back, so the tour adds no driving: 240 minutes on the tour plus a 30-minute buffer for a fixed departure is 270 minutes. That is most of the day's slack, so Kerið and a long stop at Þingvellir will not both fit in winter daylight. As a stand-alone trip from Reykjavík, Harpa to Gullfoss is 121 km and about 110 minutes each way by OSRM on OpenStreetMap, which makes it about 490 minutes; the operator also sells a version with pick-up from Reykjavík.
What goes wrong
Weather and visibility on the ice cap. The operator says timings may be delayed or cancelled because of weather or road conditions, and its FAQ sets out the remedy: a delay of about 30 minutes entitles you to cancel for a full refund, a tour extended by two hours or more to a 25 per cent refund, three hours or more to 50 per cent. Dress in wool or fleece, not cotton; the overalls go over your own clothes. In summer the operator prepares ice roads across the glacier; in winter the snow covers the crevasses.
Alternatives
For ice without the engine, Into the Glacier takes you inside the same ice cap from Húsafell on the west side. On the same Golden Circle day, Hvítá rafting runs from May to September from a base near Geysir, and the Secret Lagoon is half an hour south.

What this page adds
A 270-minute ledger cost on the Golden Circle day of the five-day journey — the operator's four-hour tour from the Gullfoss car park plus a 30-minute buffer — because Gullfoss is already on that day's ledger and the extra driving is zero; from a Reykjavík bed as a separate trip it is about 490.
