Best hot springs and lagoons in Iceland, priced against a city pool
Twelve places to soak, from a 1,500 ISK Reykjavík pool to Blue Lagoon packages, each as a multiple of the pool price, with hours and minutes from a ledger night.
The best hot water in Iceland depends on where you sleep. North and east of the Ring Road there are three lagoons five minutes from a ledger bed: Earth Lagoon at Mývatn, Vök at Egilsstaðir and the Forest Lagoon above Akureyri. Each costs about five times a Reykjavík pool entry. On the Golden Circle, the Secret Lagoon at Flúðir costs three times a pool entry and charges a child of 14 or under 260 ISK. In the capital, a municipal pool at 1,500 ISK is the benchmark everything else is measured against. The figure this page adds is that measure, the "pool multiple": each lagoon's adult price, read on its own page on 1 November 2026, divided by 1,500.
The table
Minutes are OSRM distance on OpenStreetMap from the nearest town where one of this site's ledgers spends a night, at 80 km/h, rounded up to five (computed 1 November 2026).

Sky Lagoon's booking page showed prices only in Danish kroner that day, so no multiple is given, and the visitor pages for Reykjadalur that were tried returned errors.
What the multiple says
Most lagoons cost the same: five times a pool. Six of the twelve sit between 7,490 and 7,900 ISK, 5.0 to 5.3 pool entries. At that price the choice is geography and the hour you arrive, not the brand. The Ring Road hot springs post works out the same baths per hour and per kilometre of detour.
The Secret Lagoon is the outlier, and the family choice. At 4,500 ISK it is three pool entries. A child of 14 or under pays 260 ISK, with at most three children per parent (secretlagoon.is). That makes a family of four 9,520 ISK, against 20,800 at Earth Lagoon for two children aged 6–12. The cost is road. Going by Flúðir between Gullfoss and Kerið adds 18.1 km and about a quarter of an hour (OSRM, computed 1 November 2026) on the South Coast and Golden Circle ledger's Day 2.
The Blue Lagoon is eight pools. It is the dearest place here at 11,990 ISK for the Comfort package; Premium is 14,990 and Signature 18,490. All are "price from" with prices by time slot. Its place on a trip is the airport road: the 10-day ledger stops there on Day 10, and the detour from the Keflavík–Reykjavík road is 21.5 km and 23 minutes. Its water is 37–42 °C and under 1.3 metres deep, on the operator's own page.
The cheapest soak of all is a walk. Reykjadalur, above Hveragerði, is a warm river in a valley, reached on foot from a car park 40 minutes from Reykjavík. This site could not read a trail time or a parking fee on an official page on 1 November 2026. Wear boots, and check the trail conditions on safetravel.is before you go.
Late soaks
On a long driving day the closing hour matters more than the price. The Forest Lagoon is open to midnight and the Reykjavík pools to 22:00, as are Earth Lagoon, Vök and GeoSea. On the 7-day Ring Road, Day 4 reaches Mývatn after 195 minutes of driving, and Earth Lagoon is still open five minutes from the bed. Day 5's 90 minutes to Akureyri leaves the Forest Lagoon for the evening. Day 3 ends in Egilsstaðir beside Vök. The North ledger has all four of the northern baths within 90 minutes of each other.
Questions
Which lagoon is best value in Iceland?
By the price per adult, the Secret Lagoon at 4,500 ISK, three Reykjavík pool entries. For families, also the Secret Lagoon: under-15s pay 260 ISK. By the hour, the Forest Lagoon, which is open until midnight. A municipal pool beats them all at 1,500 ISK if what you want is hot water rather than a view.
Is the Blue Lagoon worth it?
It costs eight pool entries for the cheapest package, and it sits on the airport road, so it costs a ledger only 23 minutes of driving. Worth it if your flight times give you the slot. Otherwise, the northern lagoons give the same soak for two-thirds of the price.
Do I need to book lagoons in advance?
The Blue Lagoon sells by time slot, and Sky Lagoon books online. Fontana and the Secret Lagoon take walk-ins when not sold out, and both say pre-booking is appreciated. In July and August, book the evening slot at Mývatn and Akureyri before you set off.
