Hvammsvík is eight small natural hot pools strung along a black-sand shore in Hvalfjörður, some warm and steady, others rising and falling with the North Atlantic tide. It suits adults and older children who want a quieter soak than the big lagoons, and drivers heading for Þingvellir or Borgarnes who are willing to take the fjord road instead of the tunnel. It does not suit under-tens, who are not admitted, and the entry price could not be read in krónur today.
The figures, read today on hvammsvik.com: open daily 10:30 to 20:30, last entry 19:00; the Stormur bistro on site is open 11:30 to 19:30 by the hours page (the FAQ says 11:00). The operator's FAQ gives winter hours as running from 21 August to 31 May and lists separate summer hours from 1 June. Minimum age 10, under-18s with a guardian; no discounts for children or seniors. Three packages, Natural, Classic and Comfort, differ in changing facilities and extras. The booking page showed slot prices in US dollars only (from USD 60 for late-afternoon slots on 1 November) and one krónur price, for the package with a return bus from BSÍ at 10:00, from 14,999 ISK. The entry-only krónur price is left as "check".
The arithmetic
From a central Reykjavík bed: Harpa to Hvammsvík is 55 km and about 55 minutes each way by OSRM on OpenStreetMap; the operator says 45 minutes from downtown. The pools have no time limit within opening hours and the operator gives no suggested stay, so this page allows two hours. Two hours, 110 minutes of driving and a 30-minute buffer for a booked slot is about 260 minutes, a half-day. The operator puts Hvammsvík about 25 minutes from the Þingvellir visitor centre, so on the Golden Circle day of the five-day South Coast and Golden Circle journey it can start the loop, at the cost of Kerið or a long Geysir stop in winter daylight.
What goes wrong
The tide: the sea-edge pools are cooler at high water, and the sea itself can become deep quickly. Mobile signal at the car park is patchy, so the operator recommends a prepaid charging card for electric cars rather than the app. Re-entry after checking out needs a new ticket. Cancellation is refundable up to 36 hours before; changes inside 24 hours cost 25 per cent of the ticket.
Alternatives
Glymur is at the head of the same fjord and pairs with a soak on a summer day. Closer to town, Sky Lagoon is 15 minutes away; on the Golden Circle, Fontana sits on the road between Þingvellir and Geysir.

What this page adds
A 260-minute ledger cost from a central Reykjavík bed (a 2-hour planning allowance in the pools, a 55 km, 55-minute drive each way by OSRM on OpenStreetMap, a 30-minute slot buffer), and the operator's own figure of 25 minutes from the Þingvellir visitor centre for those adding it to a Golden Circle day.
