The Trollfjord RIB is a fast, cold, close look at the narrow Trollfjord and the sea eagles on the way, and it belongs to a Svolvær night, not a Reine one. The operator, Lofoten Explorer, runs it from its office near the main square in Svolvær on 36-foot boats with twelve passengers, all year (Svinøya page, 1 November 2026). The price is NOK 1,195 for an adult on the operator's own page and from NOK 1,095 on the page of Svinøya Rorbuer, which sells the same trip; children are NOK 950 on both. It suits a party with a Svolvær bed and a calm forecast; it does not suit children under 12 between November and March, when they are not carried.

What the pages say, read today: the boat runs through the Raftsundet into the Trollfjord, with a good chance of white-tailed sea eagles at close range but no guarantee; included are a flotation suit, gloves, hat, lifejacket, boots and goggles; meet 30 minutes before departure. Svinøya gives the trip as about 1.5 hours, Lofoten Explorer's homepage as two. The booking conditions: cancel 48 hours or more before departure for a full refund, nothing after; if the captain cancels for weather, sea or safety, another departure or a full refund; a route changed for weather is not refunded if the trip is substantially delivered.

The arithmetic

90 to 120 minutes on the water and 30 minutes of check-in: 150 at the long end, plus a 30-minute buffer, so 180 minutes from a Svolvær bed. The Lofoten stop on this site is Reine, at the western end of the islands, and from there Svolvær is 121 km by the E10, about 130 minutes each way by OSRM on OpenStreetMap. From a Reine bed the trip costs 440 minutes, which is the whole short winter day. Sleep a night in Svolvær on the way in or out instead.

The light, computed with the NOAA equations at Svolvær: no sunrise on 15 December, a sun that does not set on 1 July. A winter trip is a twilight trip; a summer evening trip is in full sun.

What goes wrong

Wind and sea state, first; the captain decides, and the route changes or the trip is cancelled. The two prices and two durations, second: book on the operator's own page and take its figure. Cold, third: a RIB at speed in Arctic air is cold in any month, which is why the suit and goggles are issued. Wildlife, fourth, is not guaranteed, and the operator says so.

Alternatives on the same road

The same operator's homepage lists a 75-minute sea-eagle RIB without the Trollfjord, the shorter choice on a tight day; its fare was not read today. On the Iceland side, see the Jökulsárlón boat for ice rather than rock.

Questions people ask

How long is it, 1.5 hours or 2?
The two pages read on 1 November 2026 disagree: Svinøya Rorbuer says about 1.5 hours, Lofoten Explorer's homepage calls it a 2-hour safari. Svinøya adds that the route varies with weather and sea. Plan for two hours plus the 30-minute check-in.
What is the cancellation rule?
Lofoten Explorer refunds in full if you cancel at least 48 hours before departure; later cancellations and no-shows are not refunded. If the captain cancels for weather, you get another departure or a full refund. A changed route is not grounds for a refund if the trip is substantially delivered.
What do I wear?
The operator issues a flotation suit, gloves, hat, boots and goggles. Bring your own warm layers underneath; the boat is open and fast.
How does it compare with the Zodiac on Jökulsárlón?
The Jökulsárlón Zodiac on this site is 16,600 ISK and costs a South Coast day 210 minutes: icebergs on a lagoon. The Trollfjord RIB is walls of rock and birds of prey on the open sea. Both are fast small boats; the landscapes have nothing in common.

What this page adds

The Reine penalty, computed: the trip costs a Svolvær night 180 minutes, but a Reine bed adds 121 km and about 130 minutes each way by OSRM, so 440 minutes — set beside the two seller pages that disagree today by NOK 100 and half an hour.
