Reine is near the western end of the E10, where the Lofoten scenic route runs out at Å, and it is the natural last night of a drive down the islands or the first after the Bodø ferry. The Statens vegvesen route page measures the scenic route at 230 km between Raftsundet and Å and makes the planning point itself: the whole thing can be driven without a ferry, but in the south there are ferries on the Bodø–Moskenes crossing, which lands at Moskenes, a short drive from the village.
That ferry is the lever. Sailing in from Bodø you save the long E6–E10 loop through Narvik and arrive at the dramatic end first; sailing out you finish at a railway and airport city. The roads administration's September 2025 notice moved the first Moskenes departure to 08.00, arriving Bodø 11.15, until further notice, which gives a working figure of a little over three hours at sea. Book the car slot in summer; the operator's page carries the timetable and fares.
Reine itself is two hours if you walk the harbour and drive to Å and back, a night if you want Reinebringen in the morning. The route page lists Reinehalsen as the built rest area here and names Reine, Hamnøy and Ramberg as the nearest motorhome emptying points, which matters because wild camping on the islands is now policed.
Quiet: before 09.00 and after 20.00 in summer, almost any hour from October to April, when the fishing racks are full and the light is low. Practical line: fuel and a supermarket in Reine and at Leknes; the E10 is open all year but closes for hours in winter storms, and the vegvesen map is the source. Winter driving here is about wind on the bridges, not snow on the road.
