Fuel at 284 ISK: what a tank costs on each Iceland ledger

bensinverd.is on 1 November 2026: 95-octane most often 284.20 ISK a litre in the capital area, range 255.20 to 289.40. Litres and krónur for all seven Iceland ledgers.

A week on the Ring Road burns about 117 litres, which on 1 November 2026 is about 33,000 ISK; the ten-day loop with Snæfellsnes burns 162 litres, about 46,000 ISK. Those two numbers are what the table below is for. Everything else about the cost of an Iceland week is a band on this site, because beds and meals have no public price; fuel is the one cost with a dated figure you can look up, so it is the one we compute.

The price, and where it comes from

bensinverd.is lists self-service prices by station, without loyalty discounts. Read at 15:10 on 1 November 2026 for the capital area: 95-octane petrol was most often 284.20 ISK a litre (Orkan, at 20 of the 75 stations listed), with a floor of 255.20 at eight Orkan stations and a ceiling of 289.40 at ten N1 stations. ÓB ran 255.40 to 284.40, Atlantsolía 255.30 to 284.30, Olís 286.60. Diesel was most often 335.80, between 314.10 and 342.50. The Iceland country page carries 284 ISK as its figure, and every ledger multiplies its litres by that.

Two warnings the site cannot compute away. The spread between the cheapest and dearest station on the same afternoon was 34 ISK a litre, 12 per cent of the price. And the list is the capital area; country stations are not on it, and the ledgers fill up at Hvolsvöllur, Kirkjubæjarklaustur, Egilsstaðir and Ísafjörður, not at Dalvegur.

The table

Litres are ledger kilometres at 7.5 l/100 km, the consumption every 2WD ledger states. Costs are rounded to the nearest 100 ISK. The last column is the saving if every litre were bought at the cheapest capital-area price instead of the most common one.

The 4x4 row is at 7.5 l/100 km for comparability only. The Highlands ledger itself assumes 10 l/100 km, which is nearer the truth for a hired 4x4 on F-roads: 114 litres, about 32,400 ISK at 284.20. The twelve-day ferry journey's Iceland legs are Days 6 to 12, 1,706 km; its Danish and Faroese kilometres are priced from those countries' pages.

How to read it

For a party of two, fuel on the seven-day loop is a sixth to a tenth of what the beds will cost in the mid band, which is why it sits at the foot of the page and not the top. It is also the cost that moves most often: the price in this post is dated to the hour because by the next re-check it will be wrong, and the country page's figure will have been replaced. The ledger does not try to guess where you fill up. If you want the lower bound, fill the car at a 255 station before leaving the capital, which on the seven-day loop is 50 litres of the 117, and the rest is country prices the list does not show.

Consumption is the other lever. A larger car at 9 l/100 km turns the seven-day figure into 140 litres and about 39,800 ISK; a small one at 6 l/100 km into 93 litres and 26,500 ISK. The ledger pages let you change the consumption figure and recompute, and that is the only honest way to make the number yours.
