Skagen is the last town in Denmark, at the tip of Jutland, and the end of the road trip north from Copenhagen. It is 522 km and just under six hours from the capital by OSRM, computed 1 November 2026, by the Storebælt bridge, Aarhus and Aalborg. People come for three things: Grenen, the spit where the Skagerrak meets the Kattegat; the light that drew the Skagen painters; and the harbour, with its red fish warehouses and fish restaurants.
The practical line: the station is in the centre, and Grenen's car park is 3.4 km north-east, about 5 minutes by car (OSRM). From there it is a walk on sand to the tip, or the Sandormen tractor bus, 40 kr return for an adult and 20 kr for a child under 12 in the 2026 season, 28 March to 24 October; cash on board, card at the machine. The Grenen car park itself takes only card or mobile payment. Swimming at the tip is not allowed because of the currents, the regional tourism site says. Skagens Museum, the painters' museum, showed Tuesday-to-Sunday hours of 10.00–16.00 and Monday closing on its hours page today; admission is DKK 140, free for under-18s (who still need a ticket), or DKK 200 for a combined ticket that also covers Anchers Hus and Drachmanns Hus, which are closed until 19 March 2027 (skagensmuseum.dk, read 1 November 2026).
When it is quiet: early morning and evening in summer, and any day outside the school holidays. Around midsummer Skagen's sunset is after 22:00 (computed). Hirtshals, the ferry port for Norway, the Faroes and Iceland, is 50 km west, 50 minutes by OSRM, so Skagen fits the night before a Norröna or Fjord Line sailing. The route there is on a Danish summer road trip, Copenhagen to Skagen.
