Nuuk is the capital and, since the long runway opened, the main international door, and the first thing a route planner must accept is that it is a door onto nothing drivable. Visit Greenland's own words: there are no roads connecting two towns in Greenland. Every leg beyond Nuuk is a flight or a boat, so the journey is a sequence of fixed departures, not a drive, and the car-hire reflex should be switched off at Keflavík or Copenhagen.

The flights read on Air Greenland's route map today: Nuuk–Copenhagen direct on Mondays and Fridays with an early 08.00 departure, northbound Copenhagen–Nuuk via Kangerlussuaq on Mondays and Thursdays, and a Nuuk–Keflavík service on Tuesdays from 11 January to 20 December 2026. The Iceland link is the one that makes a Reykjavík–Greenland–Faroes journey possible without going back through Denmark; it is one day a week, so the whole plan hangs on a Tuesday. Ilulissat is reached by domestic flight, with onward Copenhagen connections on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

The airport is close to town. Greenland Airports lists city bus route 3 to and from the terminal daily, last bus out at 17.11, and two taxi firms; a late arrival needs a taxi or a hotel pick-up. Buy supplies in town, not at the airport.

Timing: a full day at minimum, because the flight pattern forces it; three days lets you add a boat on the fjord. Quiet is any day without a cruise ship and the shoulder months of May and September. What is not on this page: fares, which only the booking engine gives, and the opening date of the new runway, which the airport site did not state today.

  1. Greenland add-on from Reykjavík, 5 days

Keflavík to Nuuk, Nuuk to Ilulissat and back by air: no roads, no car, 7 hours 40 of flying, two towns, one icefjord. It changes an Iceland trip's length, not its shape.
