Ilulissat is the icefjord town on Disko Bay, and the answer to the question the brief asked is flat: there is no road to Nuuk, or to anywhere. Greenland's tourist board states that no two towns are joined by road, and Ilulissat lies far north of the capital across open water and ice. You arrive by air or by sea, and the only sea options are the Disko Line boats within the bay and the coastal ferry that calls on its way up from the south.
What changed this week is the airport. Greenland Airports' page, read today, says Ilulissat International Airport opened its doors on 29 October 2026, and Air Greenland's route map ties a new weekly direct Copenhagen flight to that date, every Wednesday. Until now the town was reached through Kangerlussuaq or Nuuk; both routings continue, with Air Greenland listing six weekly Kangerlussuaq–Ilulissat connections and onward Copenhagen departures from Nuuk on four days. The airport page is clear that there is no public bus, that Ilulissat Taxi is the number to call and that the local taxi app needs a Greenlandic phone, so arrange the transfer before you land.
Timing: two nights is the floor, because the flights are weekly or near it and the icefjord deserves a full day on the boardwalk and an evening on the water. Four nights allows a Disko Line crossing to Qeqertarsuaq; that operator's site needs a browser with scripts and did not yield a timetable today, so the season is a check item.
Practical line: supermarkets in town, prices higher than Nuuk, and no fuel question because there is no car. Quiet is early June before the cruise season and late September after it. Dress for the wind off the ice in any month.
