The seven-day ledger, costed per day

The seven-day ledger, costed per day

Day by day: kilometres, minutes, litres at 284.20 ISK, fees with a published price, bands for the rest. Fuel 33,145 ISK and fees 11,237 for the week; Day 6 is longest.

Day 2, Vík to Höfn, is the dearest day of the week on the road: 5,755 ISK of petrol and 4,254 of fees, with four paid car parks and the first Hornafjörður toll in 270 km. Day 6, Akureyri to Borgarnes, is the longest, 325 km and 245 minutes, and costs almost nothing beyond its 6,927 ISK of fuel. Over the week the seven-day ledger burns 116.6 litres, 33,145 ISK at the 1 November 2026 price, and pays 11,237 ISK in fees that have a published price. The table is the post.

The table

Fuel is the day's kilometres at 7.5 l/100 km times 284.20 ISK, the most common capital-area 95-octane price on bensinverd.is on 1 November 2026. Fees are per car of up to five seats at prices read on the operators' pages the same day, with Parka's 89 ISK transaction fee included. Beds and meals are the ledger's bands (mid) and have no number, for the reason the whole site gives: nobody publishes one. The sign column lists car parks that charge an amount printed only at the site.

Minutes are 19 h 35 min at the wheel across the week, an average of 2 h 48 min a day; Day 6 is one and a half times the average and Days 5 and 7 are half of it.

Reading the days

Day 1 pays twice for car parks and once more at Seljalandsfoss, whose fee no official page states. Parka's Skógafoss fee is per five-hour stay and Reynisfjara's per four-hour period, so a long lunch at either does not double the charge, and both include the toilets.

Day 2 is where the fees cluster. Fjaðrárgljúfur is 1,000 a calendar day plus the 89 fee; Skaftafell is the Vatnajökull national park's 1,110 regional fee, valid to midnight; Jökulsárlón is the same fee at half price because another park area was paid the same day, the park's own rule. The Hornafjörður toll, 1,500 at the single-trip rate on spolur.is since 1 September 2026, is read by camera on the new 19 km section before Höfn.

Day 3's toll is the probable one. Leaving Höfn eastwards may or may not pass the eastern cameras, and no published map says; the table counts it. If it does not apply, the week is 1,500 cheaper and Day 3 is free of fees: Djúpivogur charges nothing to stop.

Day 4 pays at Stuðlagil's Grund car park, 1,000 for six hours plus the fee, and may pay at Hverir, where a charge is reported but was not confirmed on an official page today. Dettifoss lists no parking fee on the national park page.

Day 5 is short and has the week's single largest fee, the Vaðlaheiði tunnel at 2,216 ISK on the list in force from 2 March 2026, payable within 24 hours either side on veggjald.is or by invoice to the owner's online bank after that. Whether the old pass road was open as a free alternative was not checked on an official page today. Goðafoss is free to view and its car park sign was not read.

Days 6 and 7 pay nothing with a published price. Day 6 is the day daylight decides: 245 minutes on the move needs 305 minutes of light on the one-hour margin this site uses, which the road's midpoint has on the 15th of every month except December (3 h 36 min, computed with the NOAA equations).

What the bands hide

Six nights in the mid band and seven days of mid-band meals are the larger part of the week and are not in the table because no figure for them can be read on a public page and dated. The road costs above, 44,382 ISK for the week in a 7.5 l car, are the part that can; the vehicle-class post on this site recomputes them at 10 and 12 l/100 km. One number to carry: the dated, published cost of the road for a small car is about 6,300 ISK a day, and Day 2 is 10,000 of it.
