What the Ring Road costs per vehicle class: fuel, tolls and car parks

The seven-day ledger's 1,555 km at the 1 November 2026 pump price: 44,382 ISK in a small petrol car, 55,430 mid-size, 64,269 large, tolls and published parking included.

The seven-day Ring Road ledger drives 1,555 km. At the petrol price most often listed in the capital area on 1 November 2026, 284.20 ISK a litre on bensinverd.is, the road costs 44,382 ISK in a small car at 7.5 l/100 km, 55,430 in a mid-size at 10, and 64,269 in a large one at 12. Those totals include two tolls and 6,021 ISK of car-park fees that have a published price; they exclude three car parks whose price is only on the sign. Nothing in them is a bed or a meal.

Fuel

Litres are ledger kilometres times consumption; krónur are litres times 284.20. The three classes are the site's convention for a small petrol hatchback, a mid-size SUV and a large 4x4 or van; your contract tells you which.

ConsumptionLitresISK at 284.20
7.5 l/100 km116.633,145
10 l/100 km155.544,193
12 l/100 km186.653,032

Diesel changes the arithmetic by fuel price, not by litres: the most common capital-area diesel price on the same page and day was 335.80, so a 10 l/100 km diesel is 155.5 litres and 52,217 ISK, dearer than the petrol equivalent unless it is also thriftier. The capital-area floor was 255.20 for petrol and 314.10 for diesel at eight Orkan stations, which on the 7.5 l car is a 3,400 ISK saving if every litre were bought there, which it will not be: the ledger refuels at Hvolsvöllur, Kirkjubæjarklaustur, Höfn and Egilsstaðir, none of which bensinverd.is lists.

Two tolls

Hornafjörður, from 1 September 2026, by camera: 1,500 ISK a crossing for a car under 3.5 tonnes at the single-trip rate on spolur.is, payable within 24 hours of driving through; 950 a trip for two to five trips in a month and 750 from six if billed monthly to the registered owner, which for a hire car is the hire firm. Day 2 crosses it for certain arriving in Höfn from the west; Day 3's departure eastwards probably does, and the published notices do not say where the eastern cameras sit. Count two single trips, 3,000 ISK, as the Hornafjörður post on this site argues. Vehicles of 3.5 to 7.5 tonnes pay 2,100 a trip.

Vaðlaheiði, Day 5, Mývatn to Akureyri: 2,216 ISK for a single trip under 3.5 tonnes on the price list in force from 2 March 2026 on veggjald.is, paid on the site or by online banking within 24 hours either side of the passage; an unpaid trip becomes an invoice to the owner's online bank after 24 hours at no surcharge, and only goes to collection past its due date. Vehicles of 3.5 to 7.5 tonnes pay 3,087, over 7.5 tonnes 6,505. The tunnel is about 7.2 km in rock. Whether the old road over the pass is open as a free alternative on a given day was not checked on an official page today; in June it usually is, and that saves 2,216 for about a quarter of an hour.

Car parks with a published price

Per car of up to five seats. Parka charges a transaction fee of 89 ISK on each single payment (parka.app price list, read 1 November 2026), added below. The Vatnajökull national park fee is valid to midnight and halves at a second park area the same day.

Not published: Seljalandsfoss (Day 1), where the car park is paid but the amount is on the sign and no official page states it; Hverir (Day 4), where a charge is reported but not confirmed on an official page; Goðafoss (Day 5), free to view, with no fee page reachable. Dettifoss lists no parking fee on the national park page. A six-to-nine-seat van pays 1,300 at the three Parka sites with that class, 1,440 at Skaftafell and 720 at Jökulsárlón: about 1,200 ISK more for the week.

Fuel is 75 to 83 per cent of the road cost and the one line that moves weekly. The tolls are both dated and together cost less than two tanks. The car parks are the line most people underestimate because they are paid by phone and forgotten; six of them are 6,021 ISK, and the ten-day loop with Snæfellsnes adds Hraunfossar, where no fee page could be read today either. The seven-day ledger lets you change the consumption figure and recompute the fuel; the tolls and fees above are flat per car and do not change with it.
