Norröna 2027: the sailing days that fix a Faroes–Iceland trip

Smyril Line's 2027 timetable: Seyðisfjörður served 31 March to 18 November, Thursday arrivals in summer, Wednesday either side. The days that fix the 12-day ledger.

If you want the Faroes for three days on the way to Iceland, sail between 29 May and 5 September 2027. In every other week of the year the stop is seven nights or none, and from 21 November to 27 March the ship does not go to Iceland at all. That is the whole of what Smyril Line's 2027 timetable decides, and it decides it before you look at a single road.

The source is the operator's "Sailing Schedule 2027", a one-page PDF on smyrilline.com whose file metadata is dated 14 October 2026, read on 1 November 2026. Times are local. The schedule page on the site adds that passengers check in no later than one hour before departure and that a late passenger is a no-show with no refund.

The five periods

1 January to 27 March, and again 21 November to 31 December: Denmark and the Faroes only. Norröna leaves Hirtshals on Sunday at 15:00 and reaches Tórshavn on Tuesday at 07:30; it leaves Tórshavn on Friday at 20:00 and reaches Hirtshals on Sunday at 11:00. No sailing to Iceland. The PDF's deviation column lists a special trip to Oslo in January and the first departure of the year on 17 January; read it before booking either end of the year.

28 March to 28 May, the spring shoulder: one round trip a week that includes Iceland. Hirtshals Sunday 15:00; Tórshavn Tuesday 07:30, departing 13:00; Seyðisfjörður Wednesday 09:00. Back: Seyðisfjörður Thursday 20:00; Tórshavn Friday 16:00, departing 20:00; Hirtshals Sunday 11:00. The first Seyðisfjörður arrival of 2027 is Wednesday 31 March. Because the ship leaves Tórshavn for Iceland the morning it arrives there, a Faroes stop in this period is the full week to the next Tuesday.

29 May to 5 September, summer: two departures a week from Hirtshals, one of them continuing to Iceland. Saturday 15:30 from Hirtshals to Tórshavn, arriving Sunday 22:30 and sailing back at 23:30 to reach Hirtshals on Tuesday at 09:30. Tuesday 11:30 from Hirtshals, Tórshavn Wednesday 17:30, departing 18:00, Seyðisfjörður Thursday 08:30. Back: Seyðisfjörður Thursday 10:30; Tórshavn Friday 03:00, departing 03:30; Hirtshals Saturday 12:30. Seyðisfjörður Thursdays run from 3 June to 2 September. This is the only period with a Saturday arrival in Tórshavn and a Wednesday departure from it, which is the three-night Faroes stop.

6 September to 20 November, the autumn shoulder: the spring pattern again. Seyðisfjörður Wednesday arrivals from 8 September to 17 November; the last departure from Iceland is Thursday 18 November at 20:00. The deviation column shows changed times in the handover week of 4 to 9 September and around 27 and 28 May; those two weeks need the PDF, not this summary.

What it does to the twelve-day ledger

The ledger on this site is built on the summer pattern and on nothing else. Day 1 is the Saturday sailing from Hirtshals; Days 3 to 5 are the three Faroese road days from a Tórshavn base; Day 5 ends on the Wednesday 18:00 departure; Day 6 starts at 08:30 on Thursday in Seyðisfjörður with 194 km to Mývatn. Move the start to any Saturday from 29 May to 28 August and the shape holds. Move it into the shoulder and Day 2's arrival becomes Tuesday morning, the Iceland ship leaves at 13:00 the same day, and the Faroes are either a five-hour lunch or seven nights; the ledger becomes a nineteen-day trip or a ferry transit with no Faroes at all.

Two things the timetable does not say. It does not give fares, which Smyril Line prices by date and cabin on its booking site only. And it does not say what a late arrival does to Day 6; the ledger does, which is sleep in Egilsstaðir and fold Mývatn into the next day. The ship, not the road, is the fixed point, and the dates above are the fixed point's own dates.
