Odda is the town at the inner end of the Sørfjorden, the long southern arm of the Hardangerfjord, and on a route it is the Trolltunga night. The hike starts up the valley: P2 Skjeggedal, the main trailhead, is 12.7 km and about 24 minutes from the town centre by OSRM over OpenStreetMap (computed 1 November 2026), and the official Trolltunga site gives the round trip from there as 27 km and 8–12 hours. Sleep in Odda the night before and after; nobody does the walk well at the end of a drive. See Trolltunga hike.
The drive in is long from every direction. OSRM gives Bergen to Odda as 135 km and about 2 h 40, and Stavanger to Odda as 212 km and about 3 h 45, computed today in normal conditions.
Parking is the number that surprises people. trolltunga.com, read today, prices a same-day ticket at NOK 330 at P1 Tyssedal, NOK 550 at P2 Skjeggedal with the toll for the private road included, and NOK 600 at P3 Mågelitopp plus a NOK 220 toll, where the 30 spaces are pre-booked only. The 2026 shuttle buses from Odda ran 15 May to 27 September; there is no bus season printed for the winter.
Practical line: buy food and fuel in town before driving up the valley; the official site has its own page on drinking water and toilets along the trail. Quiet: Odda itself is quiet outside the summer hiking weeks, and the shuttle timetable shows when the trail empties. Safety comes from the official site: start early, return before dark, and do not go in strong wind, heavy rain or fog.
