Laugarvatn

Laugarvatn is the lakeside village on the road from Þingvellir to Geysir, and on a Golden Circle day it is in effect on the route: Þingvellir visitor centre to Geysir direct is about 60 minutes, and stopping at the Fontana baths on the way makes it about 61 (OSRM on OpenStreetMap). That is why it is the natural place to break the loop for a bath, a rye-bread demonstration or lunch.
Read today on fontana.is: the baths are open every day, 10:00 to 21:00 from 1 June to 30 September and 11:00 to 21:00 from 1 October to 31 May, with changes on holidays and for events. Adults (16+) 7,490 ISK, seniors and disabled 6,490 ISK, ages 6–15 4,990 ISK, under 6 free. The geothermal bakery tour, where rye bread is dug out of the hot ground, runs at fixed times and the operator says it is often sold out. Cancellation for the baths is free up to 24 hours ahead, for the bread tour up to 48 hours.
The village has a campsite and a few places to eat; for fuel and a supermarket, Selfoss is the reliable choice.
