Jukkasjärvi

Jukkasjärvi is the Torne River village east of Kiruna where the Icehotel is rebuilt every winter from river ice, and for a route it is a short detour rather than a destination: 20 km from the centre of Kiruna by road, about 22 minutes by OSRM on OpenStreetMap in normal conditions. Icehotel's own page puts Kiruna airport a 15-minute drive away and says its transfer from Kiruna airport or the railway station takes 15 to 20 minutes.
Timing: an hour covers the day entry to the ice hotel and the art exhibition; a night if you are sleeping in an ice room or a warm room beside it. Icehotel's ticket page, read on 1 November 2026, lists the art exhibition open 10:00 to 18:00 from 12 December 2026 to 10 April 2027, and 11:00 to 18:00 in the 365-only months before that, with day tickets at SEK 325 for an adult for April to December 2026. Overnight guests enter free. The site is cash-free.
The light is the other fact. At Jukkasjärvi's coordinates the NOAA equations give no sunrise on 15 December and 07:55 to 15:48 on 15 February (computed); in summer the operator counts 47 days of midnight sun.
Practical line: no fuel in the village; fill up in Kiruna. Winter tyres are mandatory in season. The Kiruna stop has the E10 warnings for anyone driving on to Abisko.
