Höfn fuel stop (last before the East Fjords)

This entry exists because of a gap, not a sight. Leaving Höfn eastbound, the Ring Road hugs the fjords for more than a hundred kilometres before the next village with fuel, Djúpivogur, and the stretch includes the long Hvalnes and Lónsheiði sections where the road is exposed and closed in winter storms. Westbound the picture is similar: Jökulsárlón, Skaftafell and the sandur have no pumps of their own, and the next certain town stop is Kirkjubæjarklaustur, about 200 km away. Höfn is therefore the fill-to-full point in both directions.
The practical line: Olís has a station in Höfn (confirmed on olis.is today). N1 lists stations at Djúpivogur and Fagurhólsmýri and Orkan at Freysnes on the bensinverd.is regional list (read 1 November 2026); their own station maps could not be read today. Pumps take cards at all hours; the shop hours are the operator's. If you arrive at night with a quarter tank and a camper, fill now rather than at Djúpivogur, whose fuel presence could not be verified today.
The consumption maths for a 7.5 l/100 km car: Höfn to Egilsstaðir via the coast is roughly 250 km and 19 litres; Höfn to Vík roughly 270 km and 20 litres. A half tank in a small hire car covers either, but a camper at 12 l/100 km does not have the same margin, and the headwinds on the fjords push consumption up.
Phone signal is good in town and patchy in the fjords. Toilets at the station. Safety is the road east: check umferdin.is for closures at Hvalnes before leaving in winter.
