Faroe Islands, month by month
Daylight is computed for Tórshavn on the 15th; roads, ferries and prices are the planner's sourced notes. See the country page for how to get there.

How to read the rows
The Faroes have two calendars: the weather's, which is wet in every month and windiest from October to March, and the Norröna's, which decides whether the islands can be combined with Iceland at all. The ferry calendar is the one this planner is built on, from Smyril Line's published 2027 schedule, because it is the only part of a Faroese year that can be stated to the hour.
The ferry year
From 1 January to 27 March and from 21 November to 31 December the Norröna sails only between Hirtshals and Tórshavn, once a week: out of Hirtshals Sunday 15.00, into Tórshavn Tuesday 07.30, back out of Tórshavn Friday 20.00. There is no Iceland call, so a winter Faroes trip is a Danish round trip or a flight to Vágar.
From 28 March to 28 May and from 6 September to 20 November the ship adds Iceland on the same weekly rhythm: Tórshavn Tuesday 13.00 to Seyðisfjörður Wednesday 09.00, back Thursday 20.00 to Tórshavn Friday 16.00. One sailing a week means a Faroes stop on the way to Iceland is seven nights or none.
From 29 May to 5 September the summer timetable has two departures from Hirtshals, Saturday and Tuesday, and the Iceland sailing leaves Tórshavn on Wednesday at 18.00. That is the pattern that allows the three-night Faroes stop in this site's 12-day journey, and it is the reason the journey's default date is in June.
Roads
Every road and tunnel is open all year; the Faroes have no seasonal road in the Icelandic or Norwegian sense. What closes is the high ground in storms, for hours rather than days: the mountain road over to Norðradalur, the Eiði–Gjógv road, the road out to Viðareiði. Landsverk posts closures and conditions, and in winter it is worth reading before a day on the northern islands. The sub-sea tunnels are tolled all year at the same rates, on Tunnil's list.
Light
Tórshavn at 62°N has about five hours of daylight in mid-December and nearly twenty in mid-June, computed with the NOAA formula; there is no polar night and no midnight sun, only the long blue evenings of June and the long dim afternoons of December. The site computes the figure for any date you pick on a route.
Boats and birds
The Mykines passenger boat and the Vestmanna cliff boats run in the summer months and are the first thing the weather cancels; dates and sailings are the operators' and change year to year. Puffins are on Mykines from late April to mid-August. The Suðuroy car ferry runs all year.
Prices
Beds are the constraint. Tórshavn has few hotels and they fill in June, July and August and on any day a cruise ship is in; prices follow. The low months, November to March, are the cheapest and the darkest. The shoulder months, May and September, are the planner's answer for a party that wants light and a bed without a fight, with the ferry pattern deciding which of the two works for an Iceland combination.
